The Best Ways to Prepare for Your First Yoga Class

Practicing yoga is a fun and relaxing way of making a connection between your body and your mind. As you consistently practice at our yoga studio in South Jersey, you are invigorating your muscles by stretching and strengthening them and building greater balance. Yoga also has benefits for increased flexibility, circulatory improvements, and protection from injuries. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your new yoga experience:

Physical Preparation

It’s important to hydrate yourself with plenty of water, whether the class is heated or not. Try not to eat a heavy meal 2-3 hours before class. If needed, a light snack or pressed juice an hour before is adequate.

Preparation for Class

It’s helpful to arrive 10-15 minutes early for your first class. This allows you time to discuss any injuries you have with an instructor as well as fill out any new paperwork. Notify the instructor that it’s your first time in a yoga class so that they may give you extra attention to help you adjust.

What to Bring

Bring a water bottle and a yoga mat if you have one (we also provide mats if you need one). If you’d like to shower afterwards, bring a towel. Your clothing should fit close to your body, as loose clothing can make it difficult to navigate through poses. Lastly, leave your phone and other personal belongings outside of the yoga room, and make sure to silence your phone so that it does not disturb that class.
